A. Types of Anoxia:

Anoxia refers to lack of oxygen supply to the body’s tissues. The main types are:

1. Anoxic Anoxia – Lack of oxygen in the blood due to inadequate oxygenation of blood in the lungs. Caused by drowning, strangulation, pneumonia.

2. Anaemic Anoxia – Inadequate oxygen carrying capacity of blood due to decreased hemoglobin levels or presence of toxins like carbon monoxide.

3. Stagnant Anoxia – Inadequate blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues due to circulatory failure. Seen in cardiac arrest, shock.

4. Histotoxic Anoxia – Normal blood oxygen but inability of cells to utilize oxygen due to toxins like cyanide.

B. Souvenir Bullets:

Souvenir bullets refer to bullets or bullet fragments retained in the body after a gunshot injury. Originally kept as “souvenirs” by wounded soldiers.

– Can migrate inside the body and cause delayed complications.

– Requires surgical removal if near vital structures.

– Increases risk of infection and lead poisoning.

– Imaging like x-rays and CT scans used to locate retained fragments.
